Sedalin contains the clinically tried and tested, well-tolerated phenothiazine derivative acepromazine. With its central psychomotor retardation, it leads to reduced excitability (sedation) and decreased motor activity (hypokinesia) with relaxation of the muscles, where awareness is not significantly affected. This state of relative indifference to the environment leads to apathetic indifference with reduced pain sensation, so that manipulation of the animal and the present no difficulty. The mental irritability, aggression, fear and defensive reactions are inhibited.
The effect of addition appliqued central or peripheral analgesics (barbiturates, morphine derivatives, local anesthetics) is potentiated by acepromazine and can be used to neuroleptanalgesia.
