FLUTD is a condition often associated with the formation of crystals in the urinary tract that can cause numerous painful symptoms for your cat.

The two most common types of crystals that form in the cat's urinary tract: struvite and oxalate. Prescription Diet Feline c/d has been formulated to provide nutritional management of struvite-related FLUTD.

Struvite crystals are usually formed in response to urine that is saturated with magnesium, ammonium and phosphorus combined with an alkaline urinary pH. Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is a condition often associated with the formation of crystals in the urinary tract. One type of crystal that forms in a cat`s urinary tract is called calcium oxalate. These crystals and stones can cause pain and bloody urine, and the stones can potentially block the urinary tract. Hills Prescription Diet Feline X/D was formulated specifically to help reduce recurrence of calcium oxalate related urinary tract disease. Calcium oxalate may form when the urine is saturated with calcium and oxalate, particularly if combined with an acidic urinary pH.

Indication: Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) – Oxalate crystals and uroliths, prevention of recurrence. Idiopathic FLUTD in senior or Persian cats.

Not recommended for: • Kittens. • Pregnant or lactating queens. • Cats with struvite urolithiasis or crystalluria.

Additional information: Monitor urinary pH regularly. Other products to consider • For struvite-associated FLUTD: Hills Prescription Diet Feline s/d (dissolution) and Hills Prescription Diet Feline c/d (prevention of recurrence). • For idiopathic FLUTD in adult cats: Hills Prescription Diet Feline c/d (canned).

Citrate Added - Increases urinary pH. Forms soluble complexes with calcium to inhibit calcium oxalate formation. Vitamin B6 Increased - Decreases oxalate absorption to limit excretion in urine. Target urinary pH Less acidic: pH 6.6-6.8 - Limits crystallisation of calcium oxalate. Water Increased - Increases urine volume, which dilutes calcium oxalate constituents. Lower urinary specific gravity, to reduce recurrence of idiopathic FLUTD. Vitamin E, Beta-carotene High - Reduces harmful free radicals to help combat urolithiasis.
